Ballet Chancers sees Ireland’s most famous ballerina, Monica Loughman, take on the challenge of a lifetime.

Can she turn six streetwise hip hop dancers into elegant ballet dancers in just four months? Monica will put these urban freestylers through their paces as she attempts to teach them everything she knows about ballet in preparation for a performance of The Nutcracker with Monica’s own company, The Irish Youth Russian Ballet Company.

While many dancers are unhappy with the depiction of ballet in the movie Black Swan, Monica Loughman thinks any publicity is good publicity.

Monica was the first European to train in Russia where she became a principal in the Tchaikovsky Perm State Ballet.
